For all of you who’d like to be part of the Barber National Institute’s Beast on the Bay extreme obstacle challenge, but are wary of the words “extreme obstacle challenge,” here’s a great way to take part. The Barber Institute is seeking volunteers to help put on the Beast on the Bay trial run event, a 3-mile obstacle course that will be held Sunday, April 21, as well as for the main event itself on Sept. 7.
Volunteers are needed to help with course setup and tear down, registration, traffic direction, obstacle monitoring, cleanup and hydration stations. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
The Beast on the Bay challenge will take place along Lake Erie at Presque Isle State Park, and obstacles will include uphill climbs and swimming, among other feats of athleticism. The total course length will be a grueling 12+ miles, but individuals of all fitness levels are encouraged to participate, as there will be turnaround points marking 4, 6 and 8-mile routes. For more information, visit Barber Beast on the Bay on Facebook or www.barberinstitute.org.
